CAIRO, November 22nd. /TASS/. At least 14,532 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since October 7, Al Jazeera television said, citing the press service of the enclave's authorities.
According to media reports, the victims include around 6,000 children and around 4,000 women. At least 35,000 people were injured.
Among the fatalities are 205 medical personnel, 64 journalists and 25 members of the local civil defense forces.
Tensions in the Middle East rose again on October 7 when militants from the Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian group Hamas staged a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Hamas described its attack as a response to the Israeli authorities' aggressive crackdown on the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City. In response, Israel has declared a state of war readiness; announced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million Palestinians; and began airstrikes on the enclave and certain parts of Lebanon and Syria. There are also clashes in the West Bank. As previously reported, Hamas and Israel, brokered by Qatar and Egypt, reached an agreement on a four-day humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip.
